Privacy Policy
The Dream Line is built to be anonymous. This policy explains exactly what we handle, what we keep, and what we never collect. It is written to be read.
The short version
You tell us a dream. We keep the words, not your voice, and not your identity. We never ask who you are, and we don't try to find out.
What we collect
Your dream. When you record a dream on the website, call our phone line, or text our number, we receive the audio or text of what you share.
Coarse location. When a dream is submitted, we note the country (and broad region) it came from, based on the network it arrived through. We do this in our own systems and we do not store the underlying IP address or phone metadata used to determine it. We never collect or store street addresses, precise locations, or GPS data.
Phone numbers (phone and text channels only). If you call or text, your phone number is visible to our telephone service provider (Twilio) and our voice platform (ElevenLabs) as a technical necessity of delivering calls and texts, the same way any phone call works. We do not link your number to your dream in our archive, we do not build profiles around numbers, and we do not use numbers to contact you except to reply within a conversation you started.
That's it. No accounts. No names. No email addresses. No cookies used for tracking. No advertising or analytics trackers.
What happens to your voice
Voice recordings exist only long enough to be transcribed into text. After transcription succeeds, the audio is deleted from our systems — automatically, and in all cases within 24 hours. We keep the transcript, not your voice.
What happens to your words
Before a transcript is stored, it passes through an automated scrubbing step that removes names, phone numbers, email addresses, street addresses, and employer names, replacing them with placeholders. The stored dream is the scrubbed text only.
Transcripts are then analyzed by automated systems to identify themes, symbols, and emotional tones, to generate the short reflection you receive, and to place your dream within an anonymous collective map of what people are dreaming.
Public display
Parts of the archive are public: aggregate statistics (how many dreams mention falling, which countries dreams come from), collective concept maps, and short excerpts of individual scrubbed dreams that pass an automated suitability review. Excerpts are shown with a country and a time — never with any identity, because we don't have one to show.
Service providers
We use a small set of processors to run the service, each receiving only what their function requires: Twilio (phone and SMS delivery), ElevenLabs (voice conversation and speech-to-text), Anthropic (text analysis and reflections), Voyage AI (text similarity), and InfraNodus (concept mapping). Dream text sent to these providers is processed to deliver the service and is not used by us to identify anyone. We do not sell personal information. We do not share information with third parties for their marketing.
SMS disclosure: No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent are not shared with any third parties.
Research
Aggregate, anonymized data — dream themes over time, cluster patterns, collective concept structures — may be used in research and publications. Research outputs never include identities, contact details, or precise locations, because the archive doesn't contain them.
Retention
Scrubbed transcripts and their derived analysis are retained as part of the archive. Audio is deleted as described above. Country-level statistics are retained in aggregate.
Deletion
Because dreams are anonymous, we usually cannot verify which dream is yours — that's by design. If you want a submission removed and can tell us roughly when it was submitted and what it contained, contact us at info@havingstrangedreams.com and we will make a good-faith effort to locate and delete it.
Children
The Dream Line is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has submitted content, contact us and we will remove it.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new effective date. We will never change the core promise retroactively: dreams already in the archive stay anonymous.
